Oil based red velvet cake

Oil based red velvet cake

This is the best red velvet cake you’ll ever have. This easy recipe makes an unbelievably moist, fluffy, and flavorful cake that’s perfectly red. Every bite will melt in your mouth!

What is red velvet cake?

Red velvet cake is a classic American cake made with buttermilk and a touch of cocoa powder. However, the amount of cocoa powder is so slight that it really just gives a hint of flavor. The cake is moist, rich, and bursting with vanilla flavor. It’s layered with velvety-smooth cream cheese frosting that complements the fluffy cake layers perfectly.

Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour.  300g
  • Oil.    1 and half cup
  • Sugar.   1 and half cup
  • Baking soda.  1 teaspoon
  • Buttermilk 1 cup
  • Salt 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Coco powder 1 teaspoon
  • Egg 3
  • Flavor 1 teaspoon
  • Red food color 1over2 tablespoon
  • White vinegar 1 tablespoon

(Note: flavors to be used: dark vanilla, butter milk, creamy vanilla)

Procedure:

* Add all dried ingredients together

*  In a separate bowl add eggs, butter milk and colour, whisk for 3 to 5 minutes, add oil and whisk, add flavor and whisk

* Add in your dried ingredients and stir ( mix very well) cover and allow to settle for some minutes

* Pour it in your grease pan and bake

Tips for Success

I have a few little tricks up my sleeve when it comes to homemade red velvet cake. Here they are!

  • Measure the Flour Accurately: If you don’t have a food scale you can use to measure the flour, fluff it up and spoon it into the measuring cup rather than scooping it up directly. Once your measuring cup is overflowing, level it off with a butter knife. This prevents the flour from getting packed in.
  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure you let your ingredients come to room temperature whenever indicated. Otherwise, you’ll have a hard time combining them into the cake batter or the frosting.
  • Adjust the Amount of Cocoa Powder to Your Liking: I prefer using 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder for a tangier red velvet cake, but if you want to taste more of that rich chocolate flavor, you can add up to 4 teaspoons of cocoa powder. Just keep in mind that using more will darken the color of your cake.

  • Finesse Your Frosting Skills: Frosting cakes can be a challenge if you don’t have much experience.
