This text was developed for introductory micro-controller courses taught by the Institute for Technical Information at the Vienna University of Technology.
Introduces college students to the field of micro-controllers: what they are, how they work, how they interact with their I/O components, and what the programmer needs to know about embedded and hardware-based programming.
This text is not intended to deepen any specific controller architecture, but to give an impression of the many possible architectures and solutions that can be found in today's micro-controllers.
However, we'll focus on the small 8-bit drivers and their most basic functionality, as they provide enough variety to achieve our goals.
